Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Youth-led movements have emerged as powerful forces in electoral advocacy, playing a critical role in shaping political discourse and influencing electoral outcomes. In Yola North Local Government, Adamawa State, youth movements have become key actors in mobilizing voters, promoting electoral awareness, and advocating for electoral reforms. These movements, often driven by social media activism, grassroots engagement, and collaboration with other civil society groups, have become influential in advocating for the participation of young people in the electoral process. The involvement of youth in electoral advocacy is vital for fostering democratic participation and promoting political accountability. This study aims to examine the role of youth-led movements in electoral advocacy in Yola North, focusing on their impact on voter education, youth participation, and electoral integrity (Nura & Umar, 2023).

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing involvement of youth-led movements in electoral advocacy, their actual impact on electoral processes and youth participation remains under-explored, particularly in rural areas like Yola North. Youth movements are often criticized for being fragmented, with some being more effective than others in engaging the electorate and achieving electoral goals. There are also concerns about the sustainability of these movements and their ability to influence electoral outcomes in the long term. This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of youth-led movements in electoral advocacy in Yola North, assessing their contributions to voter education, youth involvement in elections, and the promotion of electoral integrity (Musa & Gambo, 2024).

Additionally, the study will offer recommendations on how to strengthen youth involvement in electoral advocacy, ensuring that young people have a stronger voice in democratic processes.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on Yola North Local Government and examines the role of youth-led movements in electoral advocacy within the context of local elections.
